Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah Kook - Letter to his Father while he was in London

During WWI, due to the sealed borders, Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah and his father were exiled in several countries. They set out for Agudat Yisrael's Knessiah HaGedolah in Germany in the summer of 1914. With the war's outbreak, the danger of being imprisoned as an enemy subject hovered over them. They therefore traveled to neutral Switzerland, where they traveled from city to city with the last stop being St. Gallen. In 1916, the father was offered a position in London, and the son stayed on in Switzerland. At war's end in the winter of late 1918, father and son corresponded with respect to preparations for return to the Land of Israel.

In this postcard, the son raises an interesting question. In the tzedakah platter for 'Yeshivat Eretz Yisrael B'Alexandria' an impressive sum was collected, yet the son said that he overheard the gabbaim state when they set out the platter, that the truth is that it is for Yeshivat Eretz Yisrael. His question is whether he can actually send the donations to Eretz Yisrael. Later on, he raises the topic of 'the trip' - referring to his preparations to travel to London [and indeed, in early Iyyar the son did arrive in London, and in the middle of Av they left London, arriving at the Jaffa coast on Rosh Chodesh Elul]. He also refers to his activities on behalf of Degel Yerushalyim. On the second side of the postcard, he wrote a letter to his mother - in Yiddish. We have not found a response to this postcard among Rabbi Kook's writings. Switzerland, Nissan, 1918.
