'Tikkun Lei Shavuot' - Copy that Belonged to the Elder Kabbalist Rabbi Yitzchak Kadouri

"... he is promised to live out the year; that nothing bad will happen to him that year"!

Kri'ei Moed, service for Shavuot night. Jerusalem, 1952. Personal copy that belonged to the elder Kabbalist, Rabbi Yitzchak Kadouri, head of the Kabbalists' Nachalat Yitzchak yeshivah and leading Kabbalist of the previous generation. His signature appears on the front flyleaf: "Yitzchak Kadouri."

As is known, Kabbalah maintains that Shavuot night is one of the loftiest nights of the year, when it is customary to stay awake and study Torah. As appears in "Sha'ar HaKavanot" stated by Rabbi Chaim Vital in the Ar"i's name (Shavuot sermons, Sermon 1), "Know that whoever does not sleep on this night at all, even for a moment, and occupies himself with Torah all night - is promised to live out the year; that nothing bad will happen to him that year, as Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai wrote in the foreword to Bereishit: One who does this will complete the year. Furthermore, a person's life that year depends on this matter - if he did not sleep at all, he will certainly not die that year. As a result, the custom spread among the Jewish people to study Torah the entire night of Shavuot."

Needless to say, the magnitude of the segulah and virtue of reading the tikkun from a book that belonged to the leading Kabbalist of our generation cannot be overstated. Rabbi Kadouri was renowned for his blessings and amulets that initiated miracles and wonders like one of the ancients, and certainly Rabbi Chaim Vital's words, as above, shall be fulfilled: "... he is promised to live out the year; that nothing bad will happen to him that year."

Rabbi Yitzchak Kadouri [1899-2006] is considered the elder and leading Kabbalist of the previous generation. In his youth, he even knew and saw the Ben Ish Chai. He studied Torah and Kabbalah with the sages of Bavel and of Jerusalem, where he ascended in 1922. In his first years in Jerusalem, he earned his livelihood binding books, and studied in the Beit El and Porat Yosef yeshivahs in the Old City. Over the years, his greatness in hidden wisdom became known, and many made their way to his home to ask for his blessing and counsel, and to receive amulets for salvation. He passed away in 2006 at the advanced age of over 100 years, and tens of thousands of Jews from across the Jewish spectrum attended his funeral.
