Ibur Shanim U'Tekufot. Venice, 1579. Official First Edition. Glosses

Ibur Shanim U'Tekufot - fundamental book about the Hebrew calendar, and the order of Torah and haftarah readings for the entire annual cycle "from 1539 to the end of time... " with the customs of various communities, by Rabbi Yissachar ibn Sossan. Venice, Di Gara Press, 1579. This is the first and complete edition with this name (see below). On the leaves, there are handwritten glosses and astronomic calculations from the period of printing.

Preceding this edition was an incomplete edition, printed without the author's knowledge, called Tikkun Yissaschar. There are essential differences between the editions; there are some sections that only appear in this Venice edition. As appears in the author's preface, at the beginning of this volume: "The metaken said - this work was printed in two or three places without my knowledge. This is the proofread version and my choice, and as a sign, I have given it this name. It also contains new glosses and other matters that did not appear in the first - it is twice as good." note that the first version (Constantinople, 1564) the calculations refer to the years 1564 onward, but calculations in (this) 1579 version refer to the years 1579 onward, that is to say that the later print, 1579, contains the  earlier and precise version from the manuscript and that the first print (1564) bears a different text! (Refer to Ben Ya'akov, Otzar HaSefarim, Vilna, 1880, p. 429, in the entry on leap years.)

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Yissachar ibn Sossan.

136 leaves, with the blank leaf, leaf 108, between the two sections of the book. 19 cm. Many tables and diagrams, and sketches of the cycles of tekufot. Haberman, HaMadpis Di Gara 52.

Fine condition: Aging stains. Isolated worming perforations. Light restoration to the margins of the last leaves. Elegant new leather binding.
