Handwritten letter by Harav Shlomo Alexandri Sofer, son of the Michtav Sofer
Handwritten inquiry by Harav Shlomo Alexandri Sofer regarding the precise lineage of Rabbi Akiva Eiger to the Levush, through his father-in-law Harav Yitzchok Margalios of Lissa.
Harav Shlomo Alexandri Sofer (1857-1922) was the son of Hagaon Harav Shimon Sofer — Av Beis Din of Krakow, son of the Chasam Sofer, and author of the Michtav Sofer. He was a great Torah luminary who enjoyed both spiritual and material bounty and fought strongly to preserve authentic tradition, and invested great efforts printing his grandfather’s writings, and in 1899, first published Chiddushei HaChasam Sofer on Maseches Chulin along with an extensive preface entitled Kiryas Sofrim.
The letter was sent to Harav Yehuda Leib Levin, Av Beis Din of Kempna who published a book on the sages of Lissa.
