An Extremely Scarce Polychrome Example Designed by Charles Ritchel - Bridgeport, Ct. Unknown Maker - Patented November 7, 1882 Provenance: Edwin Mosler Collection Pristine Condition with a Great Patina There are only three extant polychrome examples of this adorable chimpanzee known in the world. The manufacturer for this rarified toy bank has never been identified, nonetheless, at this time, I am going to go on the record and suggest that it was cast by Ives, Blakeslee. Like Ritchel, the bank's designer, the Ives Company was also from Bridgeport, Ct. and the Ives family was known to encourage local inventors to submit projects to them. This seems like a very plausible theory.
