Peacock Weathervane
By the A. L. Jewell Company Waltham, Ma. - Circa 1870 30" Long x 16" Tall x 5" Wide Outstanding Verdigris/Gold Surface The peacock weathervane is perhaps the most elusive animal form vane in the field. At one time, several different manufacturers offered a peacock as part of their line of products, but very few have made it into the hands of collectors over the many years that vanes have been collected. This extraordinary piece has been consigned to us by a 99 year old woman whose husband was a renowned women's doctor. They decorated his office with vanes and folk sculpture in the mid 1950's. She says they were real pioneers of the hobby. They were friends with and collected alongside the likes of Herbert Hemphill, Barney & Edith Barenholtz and Bill Holland, to name a few. This is a true masterpiece of American Folk Art.
