A FINE KANDYAN KNIFE (PIHA KAETTA), 18TH CEN.
Kandyan knife (Piha kaetta), Sri Lanka, 18th century. Heavy thick re-curved blade, natural finely carved grip scales, decorated with brass and silver chased in deep relief. The specimens of this quality level come from exclusive artisan shops that are part of the so-called “pattal-hatara” (“the four workshops”) a powerful and respected guild charged with carrying out the work for the most important clients.
