Mordechai Topol [1929-1948]. A native of Ostrovetsa, Poland, Immigrated to Eretz Israel with his parents in 1936 and settled in Tel Aviv. From a young age he was a member of the Haganah. For a living, he distributed the newspaper Maariv, but his dream was to become a geological engineer to discover oil sources in the Negev. He came to the United States, studied there for about a year and returned to Israel at the beginning of the War of Independence to serve as a pilot. Mordechai had been in service since the beginning of the war, but in order not to deprive the family of the source of his livelihood, he sold his newspapers at noon every day and then arrived by plane, as he served as a launcher for besieged settlements and dropped ammunition and food. With the road disruptions he would fly to Haifa, and during the battles in Castel - to Jerusalem. Mordechai fell on Friday, May 15, 1948, in defense of the Tel Aviv airport that was bombed that day. The tune "A song of remembrance for the hero of Israel", the words of Yigal Carmi and the music of Gabriel Grad were composed in his memory.
