Sefer HaEmunot is a polemic work against philosophy and in support of Kabbalah. The author, R. Shem Tov ibn Shem Tov, a Torah scholar in pre-expulsion Spain, directs most of his strongly-worded criticism at the Rambam. A transcript of this work reached R. Moshe Alashkar, who vehemently rose to the Rambam's defense in his Hasagot, with sharp criticism of R. Shem Tov ibn Shem Tov. When publishing the present edition of Sefer HaEmunot, the publisher felt it his duty to print together with it the objections of R. Moshe Alashkar (first published in his responsa work, Sabbioneta 1554). Sefer HaEmunot was never reprinted.
