Bologna: [Menachem son of Abraham of Modena, Yechiel son of Solomon of Ravenna and Dan Aryeh son of Solomon Chaim of Monselice], [1540]. Two parts in two volumes.
One of the most prominent machzorim printed in Italy. First edition of Kimcha DeAvishona, comprehensive commentary to prayers and piyyutim, by R. Yochanan son of R. Yosef Treves (the commentary was published anonymously).
Handwritten prayer on verso of title page of Vol. II and on a piece of paper bound at the end of Vol. II. Handwritten inscriptions, glosses and corrections in several places.
Two parts in two volumes (complete). Vol. I: [200] leaves. Vol. II: [189] leaves. Approx. 28 cm. Thick, high-quality paper. Good-fair condition. Stains. Worming to title pages and other leaves, affecting text in several places. Tears, affecting text, repaired with paper (on one leaf, some of the text was completed in handwriting). Title page of Vol. I mounted on paper. Leaves trimmed close to text on some pages, slightly affecting illustrated title borders. Censorship deletions. Vol. I in early leather binding, with damage; torn spine. Vol. II in new binding.
Less than twenty Hebrew books were ever printed in Bologna. This machzor was one of the last books printed there.
