19th C Bronze Enameled Russian Icon: Christ in Silence
Bronze over wood panel. A portrayal of Christ as an angel is, particular to the Russian tradition. Isaiah 53:7 is the likely biblical inspiration for this image of the Savior, "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth."
