Handwritten and Autographed Teshuvah by Hagaon Harav Nesanel Hakohein Fried, Author of the Pnei Meivin.

“Since a k’zayis of matzah also contains water, is it necessary to eat more than a k’zayis in order to fulfill the obligation of eating matzah?”

Intriguing teshuvah regarding whether one fulfills the obligation of eating matzah by consuming precisely the amount of a k’zayis, as a k’zayis of matzah also contains water.
This is a handwritten and autographed teshuvah by Hagaon Harav Nesanel Hakohein Fried, author of Pnei Meivin and Av Beis Din of Balmazújváros (Ivaresh) in Hungary. In his teshuvah, he cites his rebbi the Kol Aryeh and expresses his delight upon the commentary of the Chasam Sofer.

Hagaon Harav Nesanel Hakohein Fried (1858-1916) was the author of Pnei Meivin. Harav Fried was renowned for his sharp mind and genius (as written in Darchei Teshuvah) and “ for being the Gadol Hador of his generation” (quoted from Maharash Engel). The Pnei Meivin numbered among the greatest Hungarian Rabbanim in his generation and authored myriads of teshuvos. His famous compositions include Shu”t Pnei Meivin and Pnei Meivin al HaTorah.

Ivaresh, 1916.
