WILLIAM IV
(1765-1837) King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1830 to 1837. Commonly known as 'the Sailor King' for his youthful service in the Royal Navy, his reign saw many reforms in British society. Partially printed vellum D.S., 1p., 15.75 in. x 11.75 in., London, England. August 20, 1833. William appoints William George Hamley as 'a Second Lieutenant with temporary rank in Our Corps of Royal Engineers.' Signed at the top by William and countersigned at the conclusion by Master-General of the Ordnance James Kempt. Blue seal is affixed to the left side. Negligible paper clip mark affects 'W' in signature, but else fine.
