SOUTH VIETNAMESE FEMALE MILITIA BANNER
War-date provincial banner from a female militia group in South Vietnam during the height of the Vietnam War, 46.5 x 35 in., constructed of two horizontal bars of red and light blue rayon with a sewn-on five-pointed star at the center. The top edge has been folded and stitched over to form a hoist for hanging with a pole. The other edges bear 1.5 in. gold-colored fringe. The top and bottom bears yellow embroidered lettering in Vietnamese, bearing the date '1968' and indicating it belonged to the '2nd Company' of the female militia of 'Kien Tuong' - a town located just 50 miles from the city of Saigon. Very light spots of staining, showing its age, but not detracting from the piece itself. Fine condition, suitable for display. While approx. 1,420,000 soldiers fought for South Vietnam in 1968, only 11,000 Vietnamese women served.
