JOSEPH FOUCHE
(1759 - 1820) French statesman and Minister of Police under Napoleon Bonaparte. He was particularly known for the ferocity with which he suppressed the Lyon insurrection during the Revolution in 1793. Manuscript L.S. 'Fouch' as Minister of Police on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., '12 Frimaire an 8' (December 3, 1799), written to a 'Citizen Leroy' whom it appears has refused to furnish a confidential address. Addressed on the reverse of the second integral page in another hand. A small puncture in blank lower area, else very good.
