(NAPOLEONIC WARS) GALBRAITH LOWRY COLE
(1772 - 1842) Anglo-Irish British Army general and politician, served in Sicily and commanded the 1st Brigade at the Battle of Maida; appointed to the staff of the army serving in Spain and Portugal; commanded the 4th Division in the Peninsular War under Wellington; wounded at the Battle of Albuera in which he played a decisive part; also wounded, much more seriously, at Salamanca. Manuscript L.S., 2pp. 4to., 'Lisaca'(?), Sep. 25, 1813. Cole asks that his intended purchase of a 'majority', or military rank for a captain in the horse guards be canceled as the man had already been promoted to that rank. Very good.
