WILHELM KEITEL
(1882 - 1946) German field marshal and army chief of staff under Adolf Hitler, convicted of war crimes and executed at Nuremburg. A.L.S. 'W. Keitel' in German, 1p. 4to., Nuremberg, Aug. 14, 1946, addressed to the commandant of the military prison while in Allied captivity. In part: 'With best thanks I acknowledge the information that my daughter-in-law got mailed the first amount of money approved by you. I make the petition to have mailed the amount approved for October (RM 200)...no later than the 25th of this month, so that my daughter-in-law is able to dispose of the money in time for bills due on the 1st of October.' Keitel signs twice, once at the upper-right and once at the conclusion. Less than two months after the letter was written, Keitel himself would later be executed on October 15. Sold with a period typewritten translation, bearing an annotation from a prison official that Keitel's request was completed, adding the initial 'T'.
