HORST GROSSMANN
(1891 - 1972) German general in the Wehrmacht who commanded the 6th Infantry Division. He was a recipient of the Knight's with Oak Leaves. T.L.S. 'Grossmann', 2pp. 4to., Bad Wildungen, Nov. 16, 1959, forwarding various photographs to a collector. In part: 'While I was at the front, my wife fled the Russians from the former West Prussia, and so we lost everything...I have very little that might interest you...What I have collected...I would like to make available to you...I don't want any money for it, especially not from you, who is very nice and kind to us generals. You know how we were attacked and verbally abused after 1945...' Grossmann signs at the conclusion in blue ink. Very good. Sold with an original photograph of Grossmann personally receiving the Oak Leaves from Adolf Hitler, also mentioned in the letter, and a notice of the general's death later sent to the same collector.
