GUNTHER BLUMENTRITT
(1892 - 1967) German general, instrumental in planning the German invasion of Poland and France, participated in Operation Barbarossa, and afterward bore a large part of the responsibility for planning the defense of the Atlantic Wall and Normandy. A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Marburg, Nov. 1, 1959, a letter to a researcher and collector. In part: '...I have already parted with all documents. What you don’t want you can send back to me via regular mail when it is convenient. But you can keep as many as you’d like... Only my last 'Curriculum Vitae' (1. Red notebook and the 'July 20, 1944 in Paris' notebook I would like to have back because I do use them myself (2 red notebooks). You can either make copies and return the 3 red notebooks to me or you can keep the original 3 red notebooks and make copies for me...General Hofsbach has written to me that he has received a letter from you, but he doesn’t know you...Without any guarantee, I think the following are still alive: Schmalz, Lange, v. Icotti, Wiese, Fretter-Pico, Feyerabend, Lindemann, Speth, Freiherr v. Luttworz...' The two red notebooks mentioned are being sold in a seperate lot in this sale. Signed in full at the conclusion.
