ADOLF HITLER
(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. HITLER APPOINTS FRITZ SAUCKEL AS THE GAULEITER OF THURINGEN Very important and very early T.L.S. on NSDAP letterhead, 1p. 4to., Munich, Sept. 30, 1927, appointing FRITZ SAUCKEL (1894 - 1946) as the Gauleiter of Thuringen after the ousting of ARTUR DINTER (1876 - 1948). In part: 'Mr. Sauckel, Since Dr. Dinter has relinquished his office as Leader of the Thuringen District so that he may use all his energies for purely literary tasks, I have now, in accepting his reasons, given my consent. I shall ask you now to take over the office of Leader of the Thuringen District, since you have learned so much in your long association as his Deputy and have already replaced him. I greet you in your new office, which I entrust to your loyal hands.' Hitler signs at the conclusion in black ink. Slight tears at center, archivally repaired on the verso, else fine. Hitler, while still in Landsberg Prison in December 1924, appointed Dinter the Nazi Party State Leader of Thuringia - the only German State that had not banned the Nazi Party after the Beer Hall Putsch. A notoriously anti-Semitic author, Dinter later served as the party's Gauleiter of Thuringen from 1925 to 1927, until his unpopular views that Nazism should lead a religious reformation to 'de-Judaize' Christianity began to jeopardize the religious neutrality which Hitler had cultivated. Rising conflicts between the two men led Hitler to replace Dinter as Gauleiter on Sept. 30, 1927 - just hours before this letter was written. Serving as Gauleiter of Thuringen from 1927 until war's end, SAUCKEL also served as the chief of slave labor recruitment during World War II, seizing over five million workers and keeping them under the vilest conditions. He would be executed for his crimes following his conviction at Nuremberg. A historically crucial example, involving three of the most notorious figures of the Third Reich. Sold with an English translation.
