Letter by Rabbi Moshe Kliers, Rabbi of Teverya, dated 1927, requesting Rabbi Sonnenfeld’s intervention for Rabbi Shmuel Shemarya Luria to obtain accommodation in Batei Machaseh.

Rabbi Moshe Kliers (1876-1934), headed Yeshiva Or Torah at the grave of Rabbi Meir Baal Haness in Teverya and from 1909 Rabbi of the Ashkenazi community in the city. An adherent of the Rebbes of Slonim and a highly respected rabbinical figure. Author of Toras Ha’aretz and other works.

Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld (1849-1932), disciple of the Kesav Sofer and of Rabbi Avraham Schag – Zwebner, Rabbi of Kobersdorf, with whom he travelled to Jerusalem in 1873, settling in the Old City. There he later became a disciple of Rabbi Yehoshua Leib Diskin, Rabbi of Brisk. Recognised for his great Torah knowledge and saintliness, he gradually became one of the leading rabbinical personalities of Jerusalem and was appointed the first Av Beis Din of the independent orthodox community – Eida Charedis in 1920. Highly respected throughout the community whilst maintaining good relations with the Arab population and with the Ottoman and British authorities. A leader of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos and founder of the Batei Ungarn neighbourhood in Jerusalem. Author of Salmas Chaim, Peninei Chaim and other writings.
