Av B'Chochma. Regarding Chalitza through a messenger “Shliach”. Only Edition. New York 1925.
Halachic work on the four topics of Chalitza, K’layim, Maisis UMadiach and He’le’m Hora’ah, by R. Avrohom Aaron Yudelevitch.
Includes controversial novella permitting Chalitza via a messenger. This Psak, about which the author had previously written about in his responsa Beis Av, caused a great tumult in the Halachic world. This sefer contains the correspondence between R. Yudelevitch and many distinguished Rabbonim across the world. One of his most vocal opponents was the Rogatchover Gaon, who exchanged a series of sharp letters with the author on the topic, which are included in this work. According to some, although the author invested much energy permitting Chalitza via a Shliach, he apparently retracted shortly before his passing.
R' Avrohom Aaron Yudelevitz (1850-1930), was born in Novardok and learned in the Volozhin Yeshiva and received Semicha from R. Yom Tov Lipman of Bialystok. He immigrated to the United States in 1904, and served for a time in the Rabbinate of Boston and Bayonne before being appointed by various kehillos as the “Rav Ha’Kollel” of New York. Although he was a notable Talmid Chochom and prolific author, his rabbinical career was somewhat tumultuous. He served as president of the Jewish Ministers Association which was ostracized by the Agudath Ha’Rabonim.
