RABBI ALTER YISRAEL SHIMON PERLOW OF NOVOMINSK (1875-1933) AND RABBI YOSEF OF NOVOMINSK (d. 1945) – MANUSCRIPT LETTER TO HIS SON-IN-LAW/BROTHER-IN-LAW, RABBI NASSAN DAVID RABINOWICZ OF BIALA – LONDON (1900-1947) .


Family letter enquiring about his daughter and grandchildren, expressing best wishes for the coming New Year 5693 (1932-3) and mentioning that the date of his daughter’s wedding has been fixed. This letter was written just three months before the sudden passing of the Novominsker Rebbe. A few lines are added below the letter by the Rebbe’s son and successor Rabbi Yosef.

RABBI ALTER YISRAEL SHIMON PERLOW OF NOVOMINSK, son of Rabbi Yaakov of Novominsk and son-in-law of Rabbi Baruch Meir Twersky of Azarnitz – Chernobil. Prominent chassidic leader in Poland and author of Tifferes Ish.

RABBI YOSEF OF NOVOMINSK, succeeded his father at the age of 17, son-in-law of Rabbi Shlomo Taub of Wolomin. During WWII he was in the Warsaw Ghetto and in Auschwitz, before being forced on a death-march to Bergen Belsen, where he died a month after the liberation.

RABBI NASSAN DAVID RABINOWICZ OF BIALA – LONDON, son of Rabbi Yerachmiel Tzvi, the Biala Rebbe of Shedlitz (and brother of the Biala Rebbe of Jerusalem), son-in-law of the Tiferes Ish of Novominsk. Settled in London in 1928.
