A rare letter full of greetings from the Tzaddik Kabbalist Rabbi Yehuda Zeev Segal Avdak of Manchester
Rabbi Yehuda Ze’ev Segal (1919-1993), son of Rabbi Moshe Yitzchak Segal. An outstanding Torah scholar and tzadik. At the age of 20 he left England to study at the Yeshiva of Mir and learnt together with Rabbi Chaim Shmulewitz and became close to the Mashgiach Rabbi Yerucham Levovitz. Returned to England in 1933 and assisted his father in the running of the Manchester Yeshiva, and later succeeded him as Rosh Yeshiva. Rabbi Segal was renowned throughout the Torah world for his great piety and many would come to him for his blessings. He worked tirelessly to promote greater care in avoiding forbidden speech and the study of the works of the Chafetz Chayim.
Rabbi Meshulam Ashkenazi (1902-1995), son of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh – Rebbe of Alesk in Stansilawow and Vienna, and son-in-law of Rabbi Klonymos Kalman Yolles of Sambor. The Rebbe of Stanislawow - London was active in promoting the upholding of traditional Torah standards, the construction of mikvaos and in other orthodox communal activities in London and other English communities.
