Because our great colony suffers a lot from a great shortage for a leader of the community - the letter of appointment of Rabbi Yisrael Abba Citran to the Av Beit Din of Petah Tikva
The renowned genius Rabbi Yisrael Abba Citron - Katroni (1881 - 1922). Rabbi of Petah Tikva and one of the rabbis of the renewed settlement in Israel, son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Rosin of Ragachov.
Born in Dvinsk to Rabbi Gershon, a descendant of Rabbi Raphael of Hamburg. At the age of fourteen he wandered to a place of Torah and began to study in the yeshivas of Telz and Valazhin. Later he returned to his hometown and clung to the two great men of the city, Rabbi Meir Simcha HaCohen Baal Haor Simcha and his rabbi (and later his father-in-law) Rabbi Yosef Razin Baal Tzfanat Penach. In addition, he studied general studies and acquired proficiency in French, Russian, English and German. Although he received many invitations to be a rabbi in communities abroad, he chose to be appointed rabbi of Petah Tikva in the summer of 1941, saying: "It is better to be a rabbi in a small village in Eretz Israel than a large city abroad."
