In the 'gemara' before us, there are sayings like those of the Tana'im in a real gemara, but the names of the 'Tana'im' were changed to the names of the members of the Hogei Dat Society and the sayings are from the words of the members or parodies thereof. Rare historic booklet. Readers will find valuable information about the folklore and customs of Dutch Jewry and even a sample of Hebrew writing in the period preceding Zionism.

Chevrat Hogei Dat was a Torah study society for distinguished families in Amsterdam. The highlights of the Society were the annual assemblies on 4 Cheshvan. This event was attended by the entire Society, sometimes along with their wives (the final mishneh in the tractate is a parody of the participating women). The 'gemara' before us was printed for the special assembly in honor of the 40th anniversary. Material about the Society included.
