Instruction in the Mosaic Religion, translated from the German of J. Johlson, by Isaac Leeser. First publication by Rabbi Isaac Leeser, one of the leaders of American Jewry.


Important work on the topic of rabbinic instruction in the United States - it is the first work printed in America on this topic. The book was translated into English by Rabbi Isaac Leeser, and this is the first work he published. The book is of historic importance and was later printed in several editions.


Rabbi Isaac Leeser was born in Germany in 1806. He immigrated to the United States when he was 19 year old. He served for many years as cantor and then rabbi of the Mikveh Yisrael congregation in Philadelphia. R' Isaac was known as an author, translator and book editor. He published the first Jewish translation of Tana"ch in English, in 1857. He translated the first siddurim printed in America into English, and he is considered one of the most important leaders of 19th-century American Jewry.
