Maharsh"a. Chiddushei Aggadot. The Entire Talmud in One Volume. Early Edition.

Chiddushei Aggadot - Maharsh"a, on all tractates of Sha"s by Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Eidels. Frankfurt am Main, 1682. Owner's stamp: The gaon Rabbi Shmuel Danatah (Donat).

When the Maharsh"a wrote his halachic novellae on Sha"s, he wrote the halachic and aggadic novellae separately. He later regretted this, as he writes in his preface to Chiddushei Halachot: "I therefore regret that I initially divided this work into two parts, that is one part of Chiddushei Aggadot ... but I could not go back and rewrite it as one work due to the toil involved." In order to fulfill the will of the righteous, the two works were subsequently united into one in later editions [Metz presses], and it remains thus until this day, as one work, Chiddushei Halachot V'Aggadot together. Due to the importance of the Maharsh"a's commentary, it was inserted into later editions of Talmudic volumes, and it is printed as such to this day, and not as a separate book.

Before us is one of the early editions (the second edition of the Maharsh"a's commentary!) in which Chiddushei Aggadot appears as a commentary in its own right, not as a part of Chiddushei Halachot. Also in this early edition before us, the Chiddushei HaMaharsh"a is still printed as a book in its own right, before Chiddushei HaMaharsh"a started to be printed inside the volumes of the Talmud.
