A RUSSIAN ORTHODOX ICON OF OUR LADY OF HODEGETRIA
Tempera on wooden Russian Orthodox icon depicting Our Lady of Hodegetria. Decorated with gilding, silvering, inlays. This type of icon originates from Byzantium. Jesus's right hand is raised in a sign of blessing, and his left hand is holding a folded scroll. Mary's right hand reverently points to the child. In the upper part of the icon, Christ is depicted seated on the throne surrounded by angels. Late 19th - early 20th cc.
