VIETNAM WAR TIGER STRIPE 'BOONIE' HAT WITH DECORATIONS
Fine example of a Vietnam War-era 'boonie' hat, as worn widely by numerous elements of the U.S. Military, most notably Special Forces units such as the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observation Group (MACVSOG). This example is constructed of cotton with a "'tiger stripe' camouflage pattern, with a webbing drawstring secured over the crown. The sides of the crown are fitted with fabric loops decorated with fifteen grenade safety rings (one missing), with two crossed flechette projectiles at front, beneath a theater-cast unofficial 'jump wings' badge of copper alloy, replacing the regular parachute at center with a grinning skull. The hat is approximately size 7.125, larger than usually seen. The metal decorations all show some level of oxidation or verdigris, with resultant staining to the fabric, with additional soiling overall and a small hole to the underside of the brim, else very good.
