(1900 - 1986) American admiral responsible for the construction of the 'Nuclear Navy', starting with the submarine Nautilus. Fine association T.L.S. on Atomic Energy Commission letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Washington, July 20, 1963 to Gen. LESLIE R. GROVES (1896-1970), the American Corps of Engineers general who oversaw the construction of the Pentagon and directed the Manhattan Project, the top secret research project that developed the atomic bomb during World War II.
