The kabbalist Rabbi Yehuda Zev Leibowitz (1924-2010) was born in Satmar, studied under Rabbi Yoel of Satmar and Rabbi Yehuda Rosner, Av Beit Din of Székelyhid, author of Imrei Yehuda. He was deported to Auschwitz during the Holocaust, and miraculously survived there. He immigrated to Israel and became a close associate of the Admor Rabbi Yehuda Leib Ashlag, known as Baal HaSulam.
