English Circa 1870 F&R Pratt Co. Porcelain Handled Comport, Prattware, Set of Five with Printed Scenes
A mid 19th century Pratt of Fenton plate printed with the 'Bully' after W Mulready RA and by J Austin and others, the scene within malachite border.
Set of plates and dishes. The set consists of two oval dishes, two round dishes and two plates. All of the plates and dishes have beautiful detailed depictions. One dish depicts a boy playing a musical instrument surrounded by beautiful dogs; the other depicts a group of people listening to a man playing in front of them. The round dish depicts a man and a woman next to a child placing a wreath on a child’s head and the other depicts a scene with the children. The two plates are also wonderfully decorated with beautiful very detailed images. The plates are also decorated with golden ornamentation that surrounds the depictions. All of the plates are marked in front as you can see on the photos. The signatures include “W. F. Witherington R A”, “T Webster 1834”, “W. Mulready R A”. Both oval dishes have cracked handles that were glued, and the handles on the round plate are broken. The other round dish and two plates are in perfect condition! The set is wonderfully colored as well. The borders look as if they are made out of malachite. The set is truly very decorative! The height of the dishes plates is 2 ¼ inches. The height of the round dishes is 1 6/16 inches and 5 1/8 inches. The size of the oval dishes themselves is 10 ¾ by 8 ¾ inches and 11 ¾ by 9 inches. The size of the round dishes is 9 10/16 inches and 11 inches. The size of two plates is 9 6/16 inches in diameter.
Pratt ware means two different things. It was an early Staffordshire pottery, cream-colored with colored decorations, made by Felix Pratt during the late eighteenth century. There was also Pratt ware made with transfer designs during the mid-nineteenth century in Fenton, England. The company that made Pratt pottery in Fenton was F. and R. Pratt Company. Reproductions of the transfer-printed Pratt are being made.
