R. Meir Schapiro (1887-1933), was a child prodigy known as the Illui of Shotz. He served as Rav of Galina, Sanock, Pietrikow and finally Lublin and was one of the most influential rabbinic leaders in pre-war Poland. He founded Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin which became the flagship Yeshiva of Poland and initiated the Daf Ha’Yomi program which is learned by tens of thousands to this day. In the course of the establishment of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, R. Meir Schapiro visited America to raise funds where he travelled extensively among the established Jewish communities.
