CLASSICS. Tumas Yesharim. First Edition. Venice 1622.
Compendium of four Halachic works, edited by R. Binyomin Mutal. All first editions.
1. Ohalei Tam, Halachic responsa of Rabbeinu Tam Ibn Yichya.
2. Derech Tamim on the RI”F, by R. Betzalel Ashkenazi (Shitta Mekubetzes) and the Arizal.
3. Tmim De’im, Halachic responsa of by R. Avrohom Ben Dovid (RAV”aD).
4. Kelollei Shmuel on the Talmud by R. Shmuel Ibn Siril’v followed by Hago’os on the Sifra.
Although all are first editions, the various authors lived in different centuries. The author of Ohalei Tam, Rabbeinu Tam Ibn Yichya (not to be confused with the Tosafist Rabbeinu Tam) was one of R. Eliyahu Mizrachi’s principal students and lived in the 16th century. He was a son of R. Dovid Ibn Yichya (Lshon Limudim) and a contemporary of both R. Bezalel Ashkenazi and the Arizal.
The RAV”aD of Posquieres, (author of the critical glosses on The RaMBaM), lived in the 12th century. Many of his smaller treatises and responsa covering a wide range of subjects are included in this collection under the title “Tmim De’im.” His glosses on the RI”F, published here for the first time were later incorporated in the standard editions of the RI”F.
R. Shmuel Ibn Siril’v, was a son-in-law of R. Yitzchok Abuav. He was exiled from Spain in 1492 and later settled in Egypt. He is widely cited in the responsa of the Ma’HaRaM Alshakar, MaHaRI Bei-Rav and in Midrash Shmuel on Pirkei Avos.
