Calendar Designed by Ze'ev Raban – "A Gift to Representatives of the Jewish National Fund" – Jerusalem, 1923
"Jewish National Fund Jerusalem, calendar for the year 5684, 1923-24, a gift to representatives of the Jewish National Fund" (Hebrew). Design: Ze'ev Raban. Jerusalem: "Graphica" publishing at "Zion" printing press. Hebrew and German.
A calendar for representatives and activists of the Jewish National Fund, with instructions for monthly fundraising events and propaganda for the Jewish National Fund, based on the Jewish holidays and other important dates. The second to last leaf lists important dates in the history of the Zionist Movement and the last leaf consists of a map of Palestine showing the land purchased by the Jewish National Fund.
The leaves of the calendar are stapled with two staples to an ornate card board depicting the portraits of Theodor (Binyamin Ze'ev) Herzl and Zvi Hermann Shapira (who conceived the Jewish National Fund) and a panoramic depiction of the work of the Jewish National Fund – draining swamps, planting trees, working the land and building the country. The card board and the calendar title page, depicting the twelve Zodiac signs, were designed by Ze'ev Raban.
Calendar: 12X14.5 cm. Card board: 23X30 cm. Good condition. Handwritten markings and notations to calendar. Minor blemishes. Small tears, repaired with acid-free tape. Hole to corner of board.
Provenance: The Rimon Family Collection.
