DOSSIER ABOUT EXECUTIONS OF JEWS AND DISCOVERY OF MASS GRAVES
Appalling investigative dossier, approx. 107pp. folio, ca. 1946, detailing the execution of two Jewish workers and the postwar discovery of two mass graves near Kehrwald. This report, likely utilized at a war crimes trial, bears the translated statements of approx. 35 witnesses and the defendants, a report compiled by a Mr. C. Gray, Investigation Branch, Atrocities Section, a statement by a Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Tollich, identification and exhumation reports, as well as an overhead map of the region in which the bodies were discovered. Gray's summary, compiled using the witnesses' statements included in the dossier, reads in very small part: "...After the Jewish transport, which passed through Trofaiach on the 7th April 1945, had had a meal in Camp 66, it proceeded through the village of Kurzheim...At the end of the village..there was a stoppage of the transport...the Jews unable to ascend the hill very quickly.. several of them were carrying wheelbarrows, small carts, etc...an unknown S.S. man armed with a pistol and carrying a bicycle, took two Jews, who were very exhausted, a distance of about 10 meters into the forest... and shot them in the neck...then gave instructions that the bodies should be removed to the camp where there was a cemetery and there buried...the East-workers lifted the Jew and carried him a few paces, and it was noticed that he was still living, so CSAR [an S.A. member and potentially responsible for the shooting] fired two shots...at the head of the Jew...having done this, [PECHBOCK, another witness] alleges that Csar turned to him and said, 'Sepp, give a shot at the Jew as well', where upon PECHBOCK turned to DELUGAN [Volksturm member present at the scene]...suggested that he should shoot at the Jew as well...". Much more atrocious content, with detailed accounts from all three accused men and many witnesses. The dossier also contains information about the 11 bodies found within the mass graves, including the identities of the victims (if they could be established), as well as any distinguishing characteristics of the remains. Disbound, interior pages somewhat worn with ragged edges, yet contents are clearly legible. Sold with a bound English translation.
