MAX SIMON
(1889 - 1961) German SS commander and one of the first members of the SS in the early 1930s, accused of multiple massacres against civilians in Italy. Sentenced to death by a British court, yet eventually pardoned in 1954. Wardate D.S. as the Commander General of the XIII SS Army Corps, 3pp. 4to., 'In Felde' ('In the Field'), Jan. 1, 1945, recommending one Leutnant Adalbert Riedl, Grenadier-Regiment 118, to be awarded the Iron Cross, Second Class. Also signed by three other attesting officers, including Generalmajor AUGUST WELLM. Lightly toned, slight odor, else very good.
