FRANZ VON ROQUES
(1877 - 1967) German general during World War II and commander of Army Group North Rear Area behind Army Group North from March 1941 to April 1943, largely in Belarus. These territories were the sites of mass murder during the Holocaust and other crimes against humanity targeting the civilian population, with commanders operating in cooperation with SS leaders appointed by Heinrich Himmler. In part: "I had a number of old firearms that were historical but not operable...The American forces took everything from me in 1945, threatening the death penalty for non-delivery...the German Wehrmacht did not demand that such weapons be surrendered in enemy territory...I can't hand over the few memorable things I still have, especially since I still have offspring to whom I want to leave them..."
