ERNIE PYLE
(1900 - 1945) American journalist who covered the Allied campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, France and the Far East, killed at Okinawa. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Washington, D.C., Nov. 21, 1944, a check to Alliance Life Insurance Company for $273.45, signed at bottom-right in blue ink. Slabbed, cancellation punch slightly affects signature, slight show-through from stamps on the verso, else very good to fine. A bit ironic as Pyle would be killed by enemy fire only four months later.
