LEE R. PENNINGTON
(1894 - 1974) Third-highest ranking FBI agent who claimed to have "70,000 confidential contacts" throughout the United States and often reported left-wing activists to the House Committee on Un-American Activities. The CIA also paid him $250 a month through untraceable checks, in a relationship so secret that even the director was unaware. Signed book: "The New Dealers" by John Franklin Carter (New York: Simon & Schuster), 1934. First edition, 8vo. 414pp. in blue boards. Pennington signs in blue pen, one page before the half-title page. Quite worn covers and spine, yet interior pages still bound and very clean. Still very good condition.
