WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON

(1773 - 1841) Ninth President of the United States, military hero at Tippecanoe Creek and against Tecumseh, died after one month in office. Fine content A.L.S. "Will'm Henry Harrison", 1p. 8vo., "Head Quarters Seneca Town", Aug. 8, 1813, to Adj. Q.M. Gen. Capt. J. Reed in Sandusky. In part: "...If there are any Muskets at Sandusky, other than those which are boxed & marked for particular regiments they must be issued to the order of Gov. Meigs..." With the outbreak of the War of 1812, Harrison was given orders to retake Detroit after establishing a base in northwest Ohio with his Kentucky troops. He then had to transport his men across Ohio, securing arms for his men in the meantime. Gov. Return J. Meigs was at the same time advancing with his own force of 3,000 men. With Perry's victory on Lake Erie in September, 1813, Harrison was able to capture Detroit and begin an assault on Canada.
