THEODORE ROOSEVELT, JR.
(1887 - 1944) American general and son of the president, served with distinction in World Wars I & II, died leading his men ashore at Utah Beach and awarded the Medal of Honor. ROOSEVELT QUOTES LINCOLN Fine content T.L.S. on Assistant Secretary's office letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Dec. 30, 1922, thanking the recipient for sending a sketch of Abraham Lincoln: "What a remarkable man Lincoln was! His writings furnish the text for so many of our actions today�Only just a little while ago some one sent me a quotation from the First Inaugural, wherein he says in effect, 'The dogmas of the peaceful past are not adequate for the troubled present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty and we must rise to the occasion.' That, in itself, is an epitome of the times we are in�" Roosevelt signs at the conclusion. Fine.
