America's growing involvement in Vietnam led to his declining a renomination as president. T.L.S. "L.B.J." on his ornate personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Austin, TX, Apr. 21, 1971, to a Mr. and Mrs. Knox about a Cartoonists Convention in May, adding "...I hope you can make your plans to arrive in Austin on Wednesday...we want to show you some real Texas hospitality." Johnson initials at the conclusion in black ink. Fine.
