EARLIEST FORM OF PHOTO IDENTIFICATION
Official photographic pass, 3.5 x 4.5 in., used in the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition - the event in which photographic identification cards were first used. The obverse bears a large profile headshot of a man in a suit, while the reverse bears the inscription in pen: "Official pass used by Alexander Sucherland during his visit to the Philadelphia Centennial 1876 - where he had an Exhibit of his Kingston made Custom Boots & Shoes - which he sold to the great firm of John Wanamaker of Philadelphia...". Some cracking to the face, else very good.
