FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR ARCHIVE

Very informative grouping of seven issues of "Gentleman's Magazine", ca. 1755-1759, published in London, containing a British account of the events of the French and Indian War in the American colonies. The first issue, published in Sept. 1755, describes the present state of affairs with France, stating "...our admirals and naval commanders have orders to destroy all French ships...for what the French have done against the subjects of Great Britain...". The issue later provides an account of the capture of Fort Duquesne, as well as a "...scheme proposed for driving the French out of the Continent of America in one Year's Time". The other issues notably contain detailed information about the happenings of the war, a 1757 account by a New York representative which states that "...the situation of affairs in America grow more and more dangerous...the more we are strengthened by Great Britain, the more ground we lose against the French, whose numbers of regular troops is much inferior to ours...", and accounts of the capture of Fort William Henry, the attack on Crown Point, and much more. Disbound, else very good.
