FRAGMENT OF DOWNED GERMAN HE111, SHOT DOWN DURING SPANISH CIVIL WAR
A great war relic, a fragment of a downed German He-111 that flew with the "Condor Legion" - the German unit which served with the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War of July 1936 to March 1939. This fragment measures 8 x 7 x 1.5 in., and appears to have been removed from one of the plane's ailerons. One side bears a crude hand-engraved annotation, likely added by the initial owner of the piece, identifying the plane's model "He111", the year "1938", and the city "Sagunto". The reverse side bears a much neater engraving of a flying eagle holding an aerial bomb, with the lettering: "LEGION CONDOR 1936 SPANIEN 1939". Worn throughout with some surface corrosion, as expected given the origin of this piece.
