FLOOR TILE, POTENTIALLY FROM HITLER''S BERGHOF
FLOOR TILE, POTENTIALLY FROM HITLER'S BERGHOF
An 8 x 8 in. mosaic floor tile bearing a grey swastika at center, surrounded by alternating blue, white, and yellow squares, said to have been recovered from the ruins of Hitler's Berghof at Berchtesgaden. A corner section of the tile is not present, and one edge is uneven, potentially suggesting its removal at the end of the war or potentially its damage from the 1945 bombing of the building. The reverse of the tile bears a pencil inscription, reading " APRIL '8...BERGHOF". Aside from this pencil note, however, no further provenance is accompanied, so it is sold strictly as-is.
