ADOLF HITLER DESSERT PLATE FROM THE BRAUN HAUS

Sterling silver-clad dessert plate recovered by an American G.I. from Adolf Hitler's office in the Braun Haus, NSDAP headquarters in Munich. The 8 in. diameter porcelain plate bears a filigreed edge, and there is a 1.5 in. wide silver overlay applied over the edge of the plate. The maker "Schoenau" has his logo applied to the bottom. The plate is accompanied by a copy of a notarized letter of provenance from Tech. Sgt Wilfred J. Caron (1914-2007), who was one of the first U.S. Army Rangers serving with the First Company of Rangers under the command Col. William O. Darby. In his July, 1976 letter, Caron notes that he had served 550 in the army and was one of the first Americans to enter Munich. He was assigned the management of the Braun Haus early in the occupation and became acquainted with some of Hitler's staff there. He notes that he personally removed the plate from Hitler's "residence/office" there and it had remained in his possession until auctioned by the internationally-recognized autograph and relic dealer and auctioneer Charles Hamilton in 1976. Fine condition.
