Rare: Zion b’Mar Tivkeh, a eulogy by Rabbi Akiva Schlesinger for his father-in-law, Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomiya. First edition, Jerusalem, 1891?
Rare pamphlet with the eulogy by Rabbi Akiva Schlesinger for his father-in-law, printed originally without a title page with a title written as: “Bitter Eulogy – Michael Hillel – Zion b’Mar Tivkeh for the death … Rav Tzaddik Hillel Lichtensein Av Beit Din of Kolomiya … by his honored son-in-law, Rabbi Lev HaIvr”i…” The author remarks in a note that “the goal of this printing is for all of Israel…because I could not make my voice heard by the entire community…” printed probably in 1891, the year of his death. 6 pages, tear in the corner of one page, small tears in the margins. Corection handwritten on the first page. No binding, generally good condition.
Rabbi Akiva Yosef Schlesinger (1837-1922) was among the first activists for building up the Land of Israel, was a student of the Ktav Sofer, the Maharam Shik, and the Machaneh Chayim. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomiya (the Maskil el Dal and a student of the Chatam Sofer, who also taught Rabbi Yehiel Schlesinger, Rabbi Akiva’s father.
